The SuperMicro X9SCL(+)/XSCM Motherboard has a strange quirk. As soon as you set a RAID array the DVD drive cannot be seen in BIOS – so now you can’t load an OS to the new RAID drives.
Here’s what you need to do:
The only way we found this fix was by talking directly to SuperMicro support. We tried putting the DVD drive on a different USB port, we tried with only 2 drives in a RAID1 format, nothing would work. However as soon as we removed the RAID config and did a BIOS reset to default the DVD drive was visible.
There’s a BIOS switch that need to be changed in order for this to work.
- Go into BIOS => Advanced => PCIe/PCI/PNP configuration
- Change Launch Storage OpROM Policy from “Legacy First” to “Legacy Only”
Not even really sure why this works, it just does and it is the recommended solution provided by SuperMicro. (It seems strange to me that “Legacy Only” is not the default)
Hope it works for you!
