Twice I somehow captured the screen on my Galaxy S GT-I9000M smartphone. The firmware is Froyo 2.2 I talked with Bell Mobility and they denied this is possible.
Native screen capture IS possible, here’s how:
- Go to the screen you want to capture
- Press and hold the return key
- press the home button key
- You will hear the camera shutter sound and see a message saying “Screen captured, saved as image file”
You can, in fact, hold down the return key while navigating to the screen you want, then press the home button.
This requires no app, no download, it seems that native screen capture comes with the phone.
This works consistently for me on my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant phone – I cannot attest to other Android versions or phones.
How about yours?
If you hold down the back button keep it held sown and hold the on/off for like 3 seconds then let it go bam screen capture
(galaxy s vibrant) Ive accidentally taken screenshots on my phone several timea and still cant figure out how Ive managaed to do it! Ive tried all of the above tricks and none of them work, and reading online, some of the aticles say my the vibrant doesnt take them (which is obviously not true) is there an on/off setting? Or does wifi have to be off or something? I really like the feature and want it, but for the life of me cant figure out how I keep doing it!
I’ve done the same Tanya, which is why I wrote this article. Can’t say why it doesn’t work for you although maybe someone else here has an answer.

I have had this same problem too. I have the picture saved on my phone as proof that it did happen. I have tried everything and I can’t get it to work. I can accidentally, but nothing seems to work.
Galaxy S GT-I9000
Pressed a little longer then 1/2 a sec on return the key + pressing shortly at the same time on the home key and it works. But some times map pictures are running away before I could captured them
it is useful to use when no wi-fi isavailable
that is how it should be
Beth; u will more than likely have to hold down the back button and then press the power button
It work differently for me. I have to hold the shut down button key and the home screen button key at the same time. I found it by accident too!
It doesn’t work for me. I can only screen capture on accident
Awesomee!!!! thank you
I had my phone doing this to me ever since i got it a year and a half ago. what i’d like to figure out is how to cancel the screen capture mode once it’s activated. recently its been going into this screen capture mode and i dont know how to turn it off, as explained by hundreds of screen caps over the time ive owned my phone. galaxy s vibrant by the way forgot to mention it
Graeme, I wasn’t aware it was a toggle on/off. Maybe someone else here will have an answer for you.
