You need to select Yes to SSL. Then although you’ll get that message that the email won’t be able to send just bypass it and press the home button. Then go settings–> mail, contacts. There the new email you made will appear.
Select it, look for advanced settings, turn SSL OFF, and change smtp outgoing server port to 587 (if it’s not already that).
Home button, select Mail and you’ll see your inbox, you’re set to go.
I give up, in my humble opinion if you are going to offer email service then you need to offer tech support for it. I have all things telus and have always been impressed with the service (never waited more than 1 minute for tech to answer) but they fall flat when it comes to email. I suppose the upside is that not being able to access mail means not accessing Viruses.
they do offer support to setup email on your iPhone, I don’t know who you spoke to, but I know for a 100% fact that they do offer support…although a quick google/youtube search will provide you instructions on how to use your device….so will the online user manual that everyone seems to ignore.
if you read the user manual for your tv, computer, car…why not for your phone…you use it more…
Hi,
I cannot send email from my iPad; I receive email though. There seems to be a problem with the telus smtp and the iPad, as mail can be sent and received on my computer with same settings. What is the fix for this iPad issue?
Thanks!
How do you get Persona email on an iphone?
and sorry, It is for a Telus account.
I have a similar issue with this. Following the information above, I get the SSL error. When I say to connect without SSL, I then get an Incoming Mail Server error message. With IMAP or POP. Neither of them work. So it won’t add the account, so I can’t get in to change the settings on the ports. Any suggestions?
exact same problem – anyone have a solution?
Paul, if I understand correctly you cannot connect because of SSL? To which provider? Gmail & Yahoo are the only one listed that use IMAP. Everything else should be setup using POP3 with no SSL. One thing I have had to do in the past is use port 587 as an outgoing server port.
Thanks for this; here’s the update for iphone 4s:
You have to enter your email address in the Description field same as in the Address field, can’t rename your account;
Name: your name or whatever you want
Address: emailaddress@telus.net
Description: emailaddress@telus.net
Incoming Mail Server:
Host Name: pop.telus.net
Username: emailaddress
Password: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Outgoing Mail Server:
SMTP: smtp.telus.net
Advanced:
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: password
Server Port: 110
S/MIME: Off
It keeps saying do you want to set up without SSL and I said no and then it states imap.telus.net is not responding – same if I try POP3
Since you are turning SSL off you should say ‘yes’ to the question as you ARE setting up WITHOUT SSL.
These companies try to make life difficult for everyone instead of easier. How does one know to set up with or without SSL? ASK YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER!!!
I have followed these instruction & I am still unable to reply or send mail from my iPhone. Any one know what he issue is.
Rogers outgoing server is:
Smtp.rogerswirelessdata.com
Thanks for the update Pat!
