Lenovo IdeaPad K1 Practical Use

Published by technicalguy on February 4th, 2012 - in Ideapad K1, Small Business Technology

It’s my first week using a Lenovo IdeaPad K1 Tablet and so far I’m impressed. The K1 is nimble and responds quickly to touch. The screen is clear and although it is apparently a little heavier than other tablets I don’t actually hold it much and don’t find it overwhelming, usually it is on the desk, counter or lap.

Bill C-11 Canada’s SOPA

Published by technicalguy on January 24th, 2012 - in Security, Small Business Technology

If you followed the now delayed SOPA Piracy Bill in the US, (our review) then you should also know about Bill C-11 here in Canada.
Amendments are being proposed to Bill C-11 that would introduct SOPA like wordings and control. the Huffington Post has an interesting article this morning about it:

With Bill C-11 back on the legislative agenda at the end of the month, Canada will be a prime target for SOPA style rules. In fact, a close review of the unpublished submissions to the Bill C-32 legislative committee reveals that several groups have laid the groundwork to add SOPA-like rules into Bill C-11, including blocking websites and expanding the “enabler provision” to target a wider range of websites.

How do you feel about SOPA coming to Canada?

How To (NOT) Check Email Over The Holidays

Will you check emails during this Christmas/New Year period?

Why?

This is supposed to be family time and the time extended families tend to get together. Make the most of it without being distracted by beeps and alerts of work emails. You know how it goes; you check emails, you look, now your distracted, you check up on it and it balloons until your in the back room hammering out some reply with multiple recipients – you don’t want that at this time of year. Focus instead on your family, extended family, friends and associates. Relax or play hard, but get away from work for a while!

wyse pocketcloud

Wyse Technology is launching a new app for Android users today called Wyse PocketCloud Explore, which will allow you to search for files you have stored on any phone, tablet, PC or Mac. The app works in conjunction with a software client installed on your computer, so you can perform universal file searches, then view the files, rename them, move them into folders, share them or download them to your device.

The software lets you perform unlimited copying and moving of video, image and audio files between your Windows or Mac computer and your Android device. Meanwhile, other files types can be opened or edited in your preferred Android application (e.g., QuickOffice). You can also choose to email the file via Android’s email client.

Published by technicalguy on December 2nd, 2011 - in Email, How to, Small Business Technology

Here’s how to create your Out Of Office Message in Outlook, since chances are, you’ll be taking some time off during this Christmas and New Year season.

Christmas this year is on a Sunday and so many will take at least the Friday and following Monday off – some much more. If you’re one of the lucky ones and your office will be closed for an extended period of time this season, how do you let your customers and friends know? (more…)

Published by technicalguy on November 8th, 2011 - in Nook, Small Business Technology, Technology

barnes and noble nook tablet
Monday, Barnes and Noble revealed their new tablet, called the Barnes and Noble Nook Tablet. It is interesting to note that B&N is calling this a tablet, not an eReader, the applications are certainly digital text focused as expected. It has a US price of $249. This is $50 more than Amazon’s Kindle Fire, but for that, you get more than what Amazon offers. Or what any other tablet currently offers, for that matter.
